Baseball Drops Tight Contest At Incarnate Word

SAN ANTONIO - In a challenging game against Incarnate Word, Texas Southern fought hard but ultimately fell short with a final score of 8-4.

The game started with a promising first inning, where Jaden Jones walked and Miguel Morales singled, but the Tigers couldn't capitalize, leaving one runner on base.
In the second inning, Daylon Carleton walked, and Edmundo Alanis singled, but again, the Tigers left three runners stranded. Incarnate Word took advantage in their half of the inning, scoring two runs on a single.

The third inning saw Jones reach base again with a single, but the Tigers couldn't bring him home. Incarnate Word extended their lead to 4-0 with two more runs, aided by a couple of errors from Texas Southern.

Carleton provided a spark in the fourth inning with a solo home run, putting the Tigers on the board. However, Incarnate Word responded with another run in the bottom half, making it 5-1.

In the fifth inning, Texas Southern cut the deficit to 5-2 after Jones' RBI but Incarnate Word added another run in their half, maintaining a 6-2 lead.

The sixth inning saw Carl Sullivan score on a bunt single by Jonathan Trejo, narrowing the gap to 6-3. However, Incarnate Word quickly responded with two more runs, extending their lead to 8-3.

Texas Southern continued to battle in the ninth inning. Bryce Hughes was hit by a pitch and Jones walked, eventually leading to a run scored by Hughes on a groundout by Morales.

Six Tigers had a hit as Morales and Carleton had an RBI. Leeroy Tavarez fell to 1-1 on the season after striking out two in four innings of action.

The series concludes on Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
