HOUSTON — Texas Southern snapped a seven‑game losing streak in emphatic fashion Sunday, overpowering the College of Biblical Studies 119–58 at the H\&PE Arena. The victory also marked a personal milestone for head coach Vernette Skeete, who secured her first December win since taking over the program.
TSU wasted no time seizing control. Daeja Holmes opened the scoring with a transition 3‑pointer, sparking a 13–0 run that set the tone for the afternoon. Moments later, Taliyah Logwood scored back‑to‑back fast‑break layups off turnovers, stretching the Tigers' lead and electrifying the home crowd. Texas Southern led 33–14 after the first quarter and never allowed CBS to make a run.
The Tigers' relentless pace continued into the second quarter. Maci Quiller drilled a catch‑and‑shoot three to push the margin to 40–14, and Ayanna Jackson finished a smooth backdoor layup to cap another surge. Defensively, Fenishka Bertho dominated the interior, piling up 16 rebounds — several coming on second and third jumps during a single extended possession.
By halftime, TSU held a 58–24 advantage and showed no signs of slowing.
In the third quarter, Aaliyah Henderson delivered one of the game's highlight sequences: a steal at midcourt, a transition finish through contact, and then a corner three on the next possession to make it 68–26. Minutes later, Holmes buried another 3‑pointer off a Henderson kick‑out, igniting a 14–0 run that effectively buried CBS.
Bertho powered TSU with 12 points and a game‑high 16 rebounds. Henderson finished with 16 points on efficient 6‑of‑10 shooting, while Holmes added 13 points, five rebounds and three assists. Logwood scored 14, Quiller added 11, and the Tigers' bench poured in 53 points behind strong efforts from Lauren Perry with 13 and Ayanna Jackson with 12.
Texas Southern shot 52 percent from the field, hit 13 3‑pointers and poured in 58 points in the paint. The Tigers also scored 41 fast‑break points and turned 19 turnovers into 21 points.
Texas Southern opens the New Year with SWAC play Thursday January 1 on the road at Grambling State, looking to carry Monday's dominant energy into the conference slate.
