Texas Southern Falls to Troy in Resorts World Classic Opener
LAS VEGAS — Texas Southern opened the Resorts World Classic with a tough 103–74 loss to Troy on Thursday night.
The Lady Tigers battled early, taking a brief 4–0 lead in the first quarter, but Troy's depth and pace proved overwhelming. The Trojans shot 45 percent from the field and knocked down 10 three-pointers while forcing 25 turnovers that led to 39 points.
TSU trailed 65–32 at halftime after Troy erupted for 37 second-quarter points. The Lady Tigers responded with their best stretch in the fourth quarter, outscoring Troy 21–12 behind a 9–0 run, but the deficit was too large to overcome.
Texas Southern finished 24-of-69 from the floor and 5-of-22 from three-point range. Taliyah Logwood scored 12 points and went 10-for-10 at the free-throw line, while Malaya LeSueur added 13 points and seven rebounds. Fenishka Bertho anchored the paint with nine boards and 10 points.
Troy dominated the glass 50–48 and held a 44–28 edge in points in the paint. Saniya Jackson led the Trojans with 16 points, and Fortuna Ngnawo added 17 points and six rebounds.
Lady Tigers Drop Second Game to Colorado State at Resorts World Classic
LAS VEGAS — Texas Southern closed its Resorts World Classic slate Friday with a 78–54 setback against unbeaten Colorado State.
The Lady Tigers showed resilience after a slow start, trimming a 13-point deficit to single digits in the second quarter and winning the frame 20–12. TSU entered halftime down 40–35, but the Rams controlled the second half, outscoring Texas Southern 38–19.
Cold shooting plagued TSU after the break, as the team hit just 14 percent from the field in the final two quarters. For the game, Texas Southern shot 18-of-65 and from three, 8-of-35.
Maci Quiller and Daeja Holmes paced the offense with 11 points apiece, combining for five three-pointers. Jordyn Marshall added 10 points off the bench.
Colorado State countered with balanced scoring and a dominant rebounding effort (55–36). Brooke Carlson led all scorers with 20 points, while McKenna Murphy chipped in 17 points and five threes.
