Basketball Falls In Road Contest At Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – TSU fell behind early but made a valiant effort to rally back at the end as Texas State handed them a 77-67 road loss on Saturday.

Tied at 6-all early on, the Bobcats outscored TSU 16-7 over the next six minutes for a 22-7 lead. The Bobcats kept their foot on the gas as the half came to a close en route to a 47-30 halftime lead. The difference in the half came down to shooting as the Bobcats finished the half shooting 62 percent compared to 44.4 percent for TSU.

The Bobcats maintained a 20-plus point lead through the first five-and-a-half minutes of the second half but the Tigers began to chip away at the lead from that point. The next few minutes belonged to
Zaire Hayes as he scored 13 points over the next seven minutes to cut the lead to 15. TSU went on a 10-1 run over the next several minutes to draw within 66-59 but Texas State recovered enough to outscore TSU 9-4 over the next several minutes to seal the win.

Troy Hupstead led the way with 19 points and nine rebounds followed by 17 from Hayes and 10 from Alex Anderson.

TSU is back in action at Vanderbilt on Thursday at 6 p.m.
