HOUSTON — Texas Southern women's basketball put on a clinic Wednesday night at the Health & Physical Education Arena, dismantling Texas A\&M International 101–63 to improve to 2–0 on the season.
The Lady Tigers came out with energy and execution, jumping to a 26–20 lead after the first quarter and never looking back. TSU's depth, tempo, and defensive pressure overwhelmed the Dustdevils, who struggled to keep pace with the Tigers' relentless attack.
Guard Da'Myiah Lewis led the charge with 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists off the bench, while Daeja Holmes matched her with 15 points and 2 steals, including a pair of momentum-shifting threes. Aaliyah Henderson added 14 points and 3 steals, and Ayanna Jackson contributed 12 points, 3 boards, and 2 blocks. Alisa Blalock chipped in 7 points and 2 assists in her debut, while Malaya LeSueur added 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Texas Southern dominated the paint, outscoring TAMIU 52–24 inside and converting 37 fast-break points to the Dustdevils' 10. The Tigers forced 26 turnovers and turned them into 33 points, showcasing their defensive intensity and transition game.
TSU shot a blistering 54.1% from the field and 33.3% from three, while holding TAMIU to just 26.9% shooting overall and 16.7% from beyond the arc. The Tigers also won the rebounding battle 53–43 and tallied 15 assists.
The Lady Tigers closed the game with a 29-point fourth quarter, stretching their lead to 40. With one minute remaining and the scoreboard reading 99, the crowd buzzed in anticipation. A fast break and a slick bounce pass through traffic found Lewis in the lane, who laid it in to break the century mark. The bench erupted. The crowd went wild. TSU had officially run it up.
Texas Southern will look to keep the momentum rolling as they travel to Austin on Sunday to face the University of Texas. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
