MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Texas Southern volleyball dropped a hard-fought road match to Alabama State on Sunday afternoon, falling in four sets (25–22, 20–25, 17–25, 16–25) at Lockhart Gymnasium.
The Lady Tigers came out strong in the opening set, hitting .300 and recording five team blocks to take a 25–22 win. Gracie Lee and Ava Houston led the early charge, combining for five kills and three blocks in the frame.
Alabama State responded with three straight set wins, capitalizing on Texas Southern's attack errors and outpacing the Lady Tigers in transition. TSU hit just .132 in the second set and .097 in the third, struggling to find rhythm against ASU's aggressive net play.
Gracie Hill led Texas Southern with 17 kills and a .290 hitting percentage, while Lee added 10.5 points and Houston chipped in 8.5. Defensively, libero Lauanna Pino Watanabe tallied 14 digs and four assists.
Despite the loss, TSU finished with 15 team blocks and held Alabama State to a .222 hitting percentage overall.
Texas Southern returns to action tomorrow with a quick turnaround, traveling to face Alabama A&M in Huntsville at 6 pm.
