Volleyball Evens SWAC Mark After Solid Win Over Alcorn State

Texas Southern volleyball evened its SWAC mark after a solid 3-0 win over Alcorn State on Sunday afternoon.
 
TSU jumped out to a 13-4 lead thanks to a pair of Taryn Stafford kills but the Braves closed the gap to 13-7 before Trinidie Davis added two kills to spark a 4-0 surge. TSU continued to set the tone as they would only allow three points while outscoring ASU 8-3 too win set one 25-10.
 
The Tigers led 6-1 to open set two and regrouped after a pair of ASU points with five straight points to lead 11-3. The Braves would close the gap to 15-10 but TSU went on a 10-1 run aided by a pair of set-closing service aces from Kourtni Coller.
 
ASU moved ahead early in set three as they led 7-5 but Gracie Hill's kill set the tone followed by Collier's block and kill for a 9-7 TSU lead. ASU cut the deficit to 9-8 but TSU went into overdrive as they outscored them 16-3 to win the match 25-11 and 3-0.
 
Collier led TSU with 12 kills while Lauren Battle had seven. Collier also had four service aces and four blocks while Ava Ray had 18 assists.
 
TSIU hosts Southern tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. inside the H&PE Arena.
