LORMAN, Miss. – Texas Southern upped its winning streak to three games as they won a 3-0 match at Alcorn State on Sunday.
TSU opened a 6-4 lead into an 11-4 lead behind the strength of two kills from Taryn Stafford. Both teams would go back-and-forth as TSU led 18-12 but the Tigers outscored ASU 7-1 to claim a 25-13 win.
Leading 5-4 in set two, TSU seized control in dominating fashion as they outscored the Braves 20-5 en route to a 25-9 win. Kourtni Collier had four kills while Trinidie Davis added three kills and a pair of block assists.
Tied at 6-6 in set three, ASU took control with an 8-1 run to lead 14-7. Both teams would trade points as ASU led 16-9 but TSU closed the gap as they trailed 20-17. Two kills by Morgynne McQueen sparked a game-changing run as TSU flipped the score and took a 23-20 lead. ASU would draw within 23-22 and 24-23 but McQueen's kill ended the match.
Davis led TSU with 11 kills followed by eight from Collier. Gracie Hill add four blocks followed by Kennedi Walker's 17 assists. Angelika Rusin added 16 digs.
TSU travels south to Baton Rouge, La. to face Southern o Monday at 6 p.m.
