Volleyball Concludes Regular Season, Senior Night With 3-0 Win Over Grambling State

TSU closed out the 2024 regular season in style with a 3-0 win over Grambling State during Senior Night Inside the H&PE Arena.
 
Prior to the game, TSU honored a pair of seniors in Angelika Rusin (Opole, Poland) and Taryn Stafford (New Haven, Conn.). After the ceremony, TSU quickly went to work on the court as they led 13-8 but GSU fought back to knot it at 13-all. TSU received solid play on both ends to move ahead 19-17 but GSU tied it at 19-all. Kourtni Collier's kill and block sparked a brief 3-0 run but a service error by TSU sparked a 3-0 GSU run and a 22-all tie. TSU would put the set away with three consecutive points to claim a 25-22 wim.

TSU stormed out to an 8-2 lead in set two and led comfortably for most of the set as they won 25-18. In set three, GSU took an early 5-4 lead but TSU flipped the contest with three straight kills and an ace to lead 8-5. The contest was nip-and-tuck as TSU led 12-11 before a Gracie Lee kill and block sparked a 5-0 run and a 17-11 lead. GSU scored six-of-the-next eight points to trail 19-17 but kills from Hill, Ava Houston and Collier moved TSU ahead 22-18. Keldri Young put the match out of reach with two kills as TSU won the match 25-20.

Hill led TSU with 10 kills and two aces while Stafford had six blocks. Kennedi Walker had 24 assists while Rusin and Ryan Henderson had 16 and 13 digs, respectively.

TSU moves into postseason mode on Friday as they'll face No. 4 Bethune-Cookman in the first round of the SWAC Tournament at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Grambling, La.
