Texas Southern's late rally fell short as Prairie View A&M claimed a 10-5 win on Saturday at MacGregor Park.
Â
PVAMU scored a run in the first as TSU left runners on in scoring position in the first and third. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, TSU moved ahead 2-1 after Ron Brown's two-run homer.
Â
The error bug struck TSU in the fifth as two errors led to a run followed by a bases loaded walk as PVAMU led 3-2. The Panthers opened the sixth with two singles followed by two TSU errors as their lead increased to 7-2.
Â
TSU mounted a late rally in the eighth as Daalen Adderley led the inning off with a single followed by Roderick Coffee's walk and Brown's RBI single. PVAMU had a pitching change but TSU didn't flinch as Tyler Williams recorded an RBI single. Jeffry Mercado's sac fly cut the deficit to 7-5.
Â
However, PVAMU would answer with three runs in the top of the ninth as TSU couldn't counter to close out the contest.
Â
Alexander Olivo, Adderley and Ron Brown all had two hits with Brown recording three RBI.
Â
Domenic Martinez dropped to 4-2 despite striking out five.
Â
The series concludes at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
