Baseball Opens Weekend Series With Offensive Explosion

Runs and hits were aplenty as the Texas Southern University baseball team had little trouble in dismantling Arkansas Baptist 17-1 in just seven innings on Friday afternoon.

TSU used five hits and an Arkansas Baptist error to race out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning. The big hit of the stanza was Daalen Adderley's RBI double  which drove in Gabriel Vasquez from second.

The Tigers would see three walks to begin the bottom of the second to load the bases with no outs and the top of the order coming back around. CJ Castillo made the opposition pay when he singled to bring in Jalen Freeman and Justin Blogg to make it 6-0.

Alexander Olivo later stepped to the plate with one out and the bases loaded again and got into the run production category when his 2-RBI single plated Chase Cromer and Castillo. A balk and an error plated two runs in the bottom of the third for TSU before Olivo doubled in Cromer for an 11-0 lead after three innings were completed.

Arkansas Baptist showed a little life in the top of the fifth when the Buffaloes got a leadoff homerun for the inning, but the Tigers defense would not allow a stampede of runs to come through and shut down any signs of a comeback.

Noah Butler and Victor Molina both drove in a run in the bottom of the fifth before Shannon Martin and Molina drove in two runs each in the bottom of the sixth for the final 17-1 margin.

Castillo, Cromer and Olivo led the way with two hits each as the 11 Tiges collected a total of 14 hits. Cromer scored three runs while Molina and Olivo each drove in three runs.

Abraham Deleon tossed a gem of a game on the bump going four innings pitched with no runs or hits allowed and striking out five. The only blemish to a perfect outing was a hit by pitch he gave up.

Cade Fontenot also had a great outing going three innings while giving up just two hits and one run with one walk and five strikeouts.
