Slow Start In 2nd Half Dooms Tigers In Loss At Grambling State

GRAMBLING, La. – A seven-minute scoreless drought to open the second half turned the tide of the contest as TSU men's basketball fell to Grambling State Saturday evening.

TSU led for all of 24 seconds after Kolby Granger's three at the 19:24 mark of the first half was answered at the 19-minute mark by GSU's Jourdan Smith. TSU would not record a made field goal for over eight minutes until Chris Craig's basket with 11:27 left in the opening stanza to bring his team to within 16-6.

A 12-1 run by TSU late in the first half would breathe a little life into the Tigers and their loyal fans that made the trek into Louisiana.

Ten of the 12 points during that run came from the hands of PJ Henry which cut the deficit down to 25-23. The 10 points from Henry during that short stretch proved to be the only points he would record all game and his team then trailed 25-23.

A 14-2 run by way of the opposition over the ending of the first half and the beginning of the second half would put the final nail in the coffin as TSU could not recover the rest of the way.

Granger did turn in a solid performance for himself going for eight points and eight rebounds while Joirdan Karl Nichols chipped in with eight points and six boards.

GSU's Virshon Cotton led all players with 20 points and added five rebounds and two steals.
