For the second straight year, the Texas Southern University Department of Athletics received a NCAA Accelerating Academic Success Program grant. TSU is one of 13 Division I schools to receive the grant which totals $82,000.
"Once again, I would like to thank the NCAA for their support in ensuring the needs of our student-athletes are met academically," said Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Kevin Granger. "Our Assistant Athletic Director of Academic Enhancement, Kim Evans, played a major part in securing the grant as she works tirelessly to put our student-athletes in position to excel academically with a variety of initiatives designed to help prepare them for life as both a student-athlete and an alumnus."
This marks the fifth time TSU has received the grant and the second consecutive year the program was awarded a substantial amount.
"We are ecstatic to receive this funding from the NCAA AASP," said Evans. "We will continue to develop programming for our student-athletes and build upon the success we had with last year's grant."
Last year, Evans and her devoted staff focused on programming centered around Student-Athlete Development, Technology Access and Staff/Student Professional Development. This year, her focus includes the expansion of the department's Academic Support Services, Mental Health Services, Student and Staff Professional Development.
