Soccer Battles To 1-1 Draw Against Texas A&M-San Antonio

Box Score
A grueling matchup for Texas Southern resulted in a 1-1 non-conference draw against Texas A&M-San Antonio on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers erupted onto the pitch for their first home event since mid-August. Sunday's matchup featured an aggressive offensive performance with shot attempts within the first five minutes of the game with graduate students, Ari Mendez delivering the first effort and a header by Haley Vaughn.

The match picked up momentum at the 25-minute mark as goalie Jaidyn Christophe blocked two shots by the Jaguars before receiving a yellow card in the 27th minute only to block another shot attempt within seconds later.

Junior midfielder Victoria Pucci posted her first goal for the Tigers in the 29th minute which was assisted by Camille Robinson. However, the momentum was short-lived as the Jaguars would go on to score the equalizer goal moments after to end the first half at 1-1.

The second half saw two shot attempts from sophomore Kaila Smith and a header by junior Sammie Garcia. Pucci delivered the final shot attempt for the team in the 64th minute. Christophe saved an additional shot to conclude a goalless second half and finalize the 1-1 matchup.

The Tigers return to action for a home doubleheader as they take on Alabama State and Alabama A&M next weekend. Kickoff for Friday's match against the Hornets is at 7 p.m. inside Alexander Durley Stadium and features free admission.
