LORMAN, Miss. - TSU won the opening set but couldn't sustain the momentum as Alcorn State claimed a 3-1 win in a makeup match on Thursday night.
TSU led early in set one but Alcorn State battled back to claim a 12-11 lead which was partly fueled by TSU errors. Kills by Danielle Lilley and Maria Salazar-Gutierrez ended the rally by ASU and sparked a 4-0 run for a 16-14 lead. ASU would score four of the next five to claim an 18-17 lead but Thalia Cordero-Moreno logged a kill followed by an ASU error to retake a 19-18 margin. The teams would trade a pair of points but ASU went on a 4-0 run for set point but Jada Hall came through with two kills along with Cordero-Moreno to tie it at 25-all. TSU would claim the set as ASU committed back-to-back errors.
TSU went into set two with momentum but a 10-6 lead turned into a 12-10 affair as TSU committed three costly errors to aid ASU in its comeback. The Lady Tigers would regroup and push its lead to 18-13 but ASU closed the gap to 19-17. TSU scored the next two points but ASU answered with an 8-1 run to close out the set as once again, it was aided by four TSU errors.
ASU jumped out to a big lead early in set three and held off a late TSU rally to win set three 25-17. TSU opened set four and endured a back-and-forth affair with ASU as the contest was tied 17-all. TSU would move ahead 19-18 after a Valencia Grayson ace but two ball-handling errors and an attack error allowed ASU to reclaim a 22-19 lead. ASU errors allowed TSU to draw within 22-21 but ASU closed out the match with three consecutive points for the win.

Lilley led TSU with 13 kills and nine digs while Cordero-Moreno had 15 digs and seven kills. Salazar-Gutierrez tallied 10 kills while Alyssa Chuidian had 19 assists. Aeris Ramsey also chipped in with 16 assists.
TSU is back in action Sunday against Grambling State at 5 p.m. Due to the condition of the H&PE Arena floor from the winter storm in February, the match has been moved to the TSU Student Rec Center.
