GRAMBLING, La. - Texas Southern closed out its final SWAC Cluster on a positive note with a 3-1 win over Bethune-Cookman Sunday morning.

TSU set the tone to begin set one as they led 16-9 before BCU rolled off five straight to draw within 16-14. BCU would remain close as they trailed 18-16 but TSU regrouped and took control with five straight kills to up its lead to 23-16. The Wildcats scored three straight to cut it to 23-19 but TSU would hold them off as Janiya Chapman closed out set one with a kill for a 25-21 win.

The Tigers led 10-6 in set two until a 4-0 BCU run tied it at 10-all. A BCU error gave the lead back to TSU and they wouldn't relinquish it as they broke open a 17-15 game with four straight points to lead 21-15. BCU added two more points but TSU kept the momentum with four straight points to win set two 25-17.

TSU was down 14-10 in set three but regained the lead with five straight to take a 15-14 advantage. Both teams would have big runs from that point as BCU answered with a 5-0 surge followed by a 5-0 TSU run to knot the contest at 20-all. The teams would tie twice but TSU would have a chance to close out the match after a BCU error led to a 24-23 lead. BCU would force extra points and fought off elimination with three straight to win 27-25.

The Tigers did whatever it would take in set four to keep from playing a fifth set as they jumped out to a 19-13 lead. BCU scored four straight to draw within 19-17 but TSU rolled off four straight to lead 23-17. BCU scored twice after that but TSU sealed the match with kills from Erianna Murray and Chapman to win the match.

Chenise Cook and Danielle Lilley led TSU with 11 kills apiece while Aeris Ramsey had 20 assists. Kaitlyn Scroggins led TSU defensively with 12 digs.

TSU will have plenty of time to regroup and recuperate as its next match isn't until Sunday, Nov. 14 at Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
