PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - Texas Southern dropped a tough match at Prairie View A&M Thursday night inside the William Nicks Building.
Â
TSU held off several PVAMU charges throughout set one and was on its way to controlling the set until a 9-0 PVAMU run turned a 17-12 TSU lead into a 19-17 deficit. TSU would tie it at 19-all after a kill from Janiya Chapman and a Kaitlyn Scroggins' ace. Both teams would find themselves tied on three additional occasions but a PVAMU kill and TSU attack error at the antenna gave the first set to PVAMU 25-23.
Â
The Tigers led 8-1 to open set two but PVAMU closed the gap to 8-6. TSU would continue to hold the Panthers off for the next few points but PVAMU went on a 9-2 run to claim a 19-17 lead. TSU would take advantage of two PVAMU errors to knot the contest at 19-all and eventually moved ahead 21-20 after kills from Jada Hall and Thalia Cordero Moreno. However, TSU committed several costly errors down the stretch which allowed PVAMU to pull away before holding off a late TSU charge for a 25-23 set two win.
Â
TSU once again led early to open set three but a 9-3 lead was turned into a 12-all tie. In true rivalry fashion, neither team would budge as there were nine ties down the stretch. Tied at 23-all, PVAMU recorded two kills to secure the match by a 25-23 margin for the third straight set.
Â
Danielle Lilley led TSU with eight kills while Kaitlyn Scroggins had 18 digs. Chapman and Chenise Cook both had three assisted blocks followed by 19 assists from Aeris Ramsey.
Â
TSU is back in action on Saturday and Sunday at the SWAC Cluster in Grambling, La. as they'll face Florida A&M, Bethune-Cookman and Alabama State.
