The final day of the SWAC Round-up didn't go Texas Southern's way as they fell 3-0 to Alabama A&M.
Â
TSU kept fighting in game one but never could get over the hump as AAMU led from start-to-finish. Every time AAMU would attempt to pull away, TSU would fight back as there was a pair of 3-0 runs which would draw them to within one or two points. The final 3-0 run closed the gap to 23-20 but AAMU responded with a kill and a block to pull away 24-20. An AAMU service error and a kill from Alexis Austin saw TSU draw to within 24-22 until a kill by AAMU closed out the set.
Â
Set two saw the Tigers take control early with an 11-6 lead. TSU maintained its cushion over the next few plays but errors began to rear its head as AAMU closed to 16-14. A kill from Austin gave TSU a 17-14 margin but two points by AAMU closed the gap to 17-16. Austin and Hall responded on the offensive end with back-to-back kills for a 19-16 advantage but three consecutive TSU errors allowed AAMU to sneak back in and knot the contest at 19-all. Both teams went back-and-forth and were tied at 23-all but AAMU stole the set with a kill and a TSU attack error for the 25-23 win.
Â
The final set was a combination of the previous sets as there were numerous lead changes early. Down 9-4, AAMU outscored TSU 8-3 to tie the contest at 12-all before securing the match by outscoring TSU 13-5 down the stretch.
Â
Danielle Lilley led TSU with 11 kills while Austin added 10. Breyanna York finished with 20 assists followed by Valencia Grayson's 17 kills.
