WACO, Texas – The Tigers of Texas Southern University led for most of Tuesday's game at Baylor before succumbing to Bears by a score of 5-4.
Â
Gaudencio Lucca and Christian Sanchez each knocked two hits for the Tigers (16-21), who lost a one-run game to a Big 12 Conference opponent for the second time this season. Sanchez hit a solo home run – his team-leading 12th of the season – in the sixth inning to stretch TSU's lead to 3-1.
Â
The Bears (18-17) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh and added what turned out to be a necessary insurance run in the bottom of the eighth.
Â
TSU pieced together a rally in the top of the ninth, with Lucca and Sanchez opening the inning with back-to-back singles. With one out, Jose Camacho hit a single into right field to score Lucca from third base. The Tigers had the bases loaded before Baylor stanched the rally.
Â
Kamren Dukes pushed his hitting streak to 22 consecutive games when he sent the first pitch of the game up the middle for a single. Dukes came home an RBI single from Ryan Diaz later in the inning.
Â
TSU stretched their lead to 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning with Keanu Van Kuren's RBI single to score Sanchez.
Â
The Tigers return to action Wednesday when they face the Texas Longhorns at Constellation Field in Sugar Land. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
