BEAUMONT, Texas – Texas Southern split its first two games of the 2018 season on Sunday. The Tigers fell 6-5 to Missouri State in the first game, and defeated Lamar 4-3 in the second contest.
Texas Southern took an early 2-0 lead against Missouri State in the first when Kamren Dukes scored on an RBI single. The Tigers added another run taking a two-run advantage early.
The Tigers allowed three runs to Missouri State in the third to fall behind 4-2. TSU allowed two more runs in the 5th and 6th innings, and couldn't generate enough offense late resulting in the loss.
Against Lamar, Texas Southern capitalized off a big fourth inning, in which they scored three runs, and added another in the fifth to take the victory.
Christian Sanchez homered in the fourth to jumpstart the big inning for Texas Southern. Ultimately, the four runs were enough to give the Tigers their first win of the 2018 season.
