HUNTSVILLE, Ala.-The Texas Southern Lady Tigers volleyball team lost to the Jackson State Tigers with a final score of 3-2 at the SWAC Round-Up.
Jackson State jump out to early lead winning their first two sets 29-27 and 25-15. TSU had a hard fought and competitive first set, but Jackson State was able to capitalize with more kills and less errors.
Texas Southern would not go down without competing. During their next two sets, the Lady Tigers put on a showcase and proved why they were on a four-match winning streak coming into the event.
The third set was claimed 25-16 and the momentum carried over to the fourth set as they won 25-19.
The final set was full of action and a classic back and forth affair. In the end, the Jackson State Tigers edged out the Lady Tigers, 16-14.
The Lady Tigers avenged their loss versus JSU in a classic dual against Mississippi Valley State. The final outcome had the Lady Tigers edging out MVSU, 3-2.
Eboni Mitchell lead in kills and blocks with 14 and four against Mississippi Valley State.
TSU also dropped matches to Alcorn State (3-2) and Alabama A&M (3-0) at the event. The Lady Tigers fell to the Alabama State Hornets, 3-1 to close out SWAC Round-Up play with an overall mark of 1-4.
Alexis Austin led the Lady Tigers with 12 kills while fellow teammate Nia Stone led with six blocks. The Lady Tigers will now get set to head to Baton Rouge, Louisiana on October 28 to take on the Southern Jaguars in league action.
