PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Texas Southern picked up an 11-3 victory over Prairie View A&M on Friday afternoon at Tankersley Field.
Texas Southern (14-14, 8-5 SWAC) had two big innings, scoring four runs in each the fourth and ninth, taking advantage of five Prairie View A&M (8-18, 3-9 SWAC) miscues throughout the game.
In the fourth, the Tigers combined two walks, a hit by Thomas and a double by Hicks to plate the first four and go up 5-3. TSU picked up a single run in the sixth on another Thomas base hit.
In the ninth, the Tigers plated four insurance runs, as Jimenez doubled, Moore had a two-RBI single and Hicks had a sacrifice fly to right.
Prairie View scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the first inning. Cody Den Beste tripled in Angel Avalos and Nick Gurka, before Den Beste came home on a Tiger miscue in the infield.
PVAM's Darrien Williams (2-5) gave up seven runs (five earned) on five hits, walked four, struck out three and hit two in a seven inning effort to take the loss.
TSU starter Larry Romero buckled down after the first and held the Panthers scoreless the rest of the game. Romero (6-1) threw a complete game, scattering three runs (two earned) on four hits. He struck out seven, hit five and walked three in the victory.
