NEW ORLEANS, La. – Texas Southern University advanced to the semifinals with a 10-0 rout of Alcorn State University in seven innings Friday afternoon in the Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball tournament.Â
The Tigers face Grambling State in a rematch of Thursday night's winner's bracket contest.Â
Two Tigers earned a game-high two hits. Both Horace Leblanc and Joel Rosario went 2-for-4 with one run and two RBI. Ryan Rios pitched a complete seven inning shutout. He gave up only three hits and struck out a game-high seven batters.
TSU took a 6-0 lead after a four-run fourth. Alcorn State attempted a rally in the top of the seventh. With one out and a runner on first, the Braves singled to left field. The next batter was hit to load the bases.
A weather delay would be called. When the game resumed, ASU lined into a double play and TSU got out of the inning without allowing any runners to cross home plate.
They used the momentum to close out the game and advance to the semi-finals of the tournament.
