HOUSTON- Texas Southern jumped out to a 4-0 advantage over the #3 Houston Cougars but the Cougars responded and closed out a 11-5 win over the Tigers on Wednesday night at Cougar Field.
With the win, the Cougars won their fourth straight game to improve to 4-0 on the season, while the Tigers fell to 2-3.
Texas Southern jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first after four walks and two base hits. Zach Welz led the inning off with a single and he went on to steal second and third base.
UH's starter would walk three more Tiger batters bringing in Welz and Zach Howell was subsequently hit by a a pitch to plate the Tigers second run of the contest. Christopher Scroggins and Blake Hicks would drive in two more runs in the top of the first inning.
Down 4-0 UH chipped away and were able to take the lead at 6-5 in the latter half of the fifth and never look back - scoring five runs in the last three innings.
Houston's starter lasted just one out and faced six hitters, allowing four runs on one hit and three walks.
Texas Southern threw six pitchers as reliever Devin Konarik suffered the loss, falling to 1-1
