HOUSTON – Texas Southern recorded six runs in a convincing 6-1 victory over Houston Baptist on Wednesday.
Gisella Paranich went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead Texas Southern (1-5). Chelsea Guenther led the team with three RBIs.
Madison Staton earned the win in the circle, as she gave up six hits, one run, and one walk with one strikeout in 5.0 innings. Samantha Jimenez tossed the final two innings and allowed one hit while striking out two.
There was no scoring until TSU scored twice in the top of the third. Paranich hit an RBI double, then, later scored on an RBI groundout by Guenther.
The Huskies cut the deficit to one in the fourth with a solo shot to center. HBU followed with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, putting the tying run in scoring position. But Staton and the Lady Tigers regrouped and got a fly out and a strike out to end the inning.
The Lady Tigers would add two more in the top of the sixth on a two-run double by Briana Parker.
