HOUSTON – The Houston Baptist Huskies defeated Texas Southern 77-65, Saturday afternoon at the HPE Arena.
Jazzmin Parker came off the TSU bench to score 17 points, highlighted by five 3-pointers.
Toni Cheadle added 15 points, while Joyce Kennerson chipped in with 12. The top rebounder for TSU was Kianna Vines with 11. The Lady Tigers shot 45 percent from the floor in the game.
The Huskies began the third quarter outscoring TSU, 8-4, to increase their lead to double digits, 49-39. TSU cut the deficit to five, but two layups brought HBU's lead back up to nine, 56-47, with three minutes left in the quarter.
TSU closed out the quarter with consecutive threes by Parker to trail by three, 56-53.
HBU scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter to lead once again by 10, but was immediately answered by a Cheadle trey below the seven minute mark as HBU led, 63-56.
The Lady Tigers came as close as four, but a steal which resulted in a foul led to two free throws, as HBU closed the game on a 10-2 run.
