HOUSTON, Texas – Texas Southern fell to Sam Houston State Monday afternoon at the HPE Arena in a close game that ended 53-51.
Brianna Sidney led the Lady Tigers with a team-high 15 points while sharing a team-high six rebounds. Breasia McElrath also registered six boards.
Toni Cheadle managed 10 points and five rebounds. Jazzmin Parker almost hit double-digit scoring, ending the game with nine points, while Keina Vines tallied four points.
Sam Houston's Angela Beadle earned the lone double-double of the match with 11 points and a game-high 13 boards. Shernise Robertson put up a game-high 19 points, while Laurynn McGowen added 10 points.
Both teams struggled at the net with TSU shooting at 33.9 percent while keeping Sam Houston at 29.8 percent. Each squad took turns scoring in the first quarter with the session ending tied at nine. From there, the Lady Tigers would enter the half with a one-point advantage.
The first 10 minutes of the second half continued to be a back and forth, one-score advantage until four minutes when the Lady Tigers used a run to take a seven-point lead into the fourth.
TSU allowed Sam Houston to end the game on a nine-point run capped off by a lay-up inside the paint with 2.6 seconds which broke a tie giving the Bearkats a 53-51 lead and the game.Â
