HOUSTON- The Texas Southern Tigers football team dropped a 41-23 decision to the Alabama State Hornets on Thursday.
TSU trailed 20-17 going into halftime and in the second half the Hornets added several scores.Â
TSU took a 23-20 lead late in the third quarter when Averion Hurts found Derrick Griffin in the back of the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown. ASU returned the ensuing kickoff 75 yards to give the Hornets a 27-23 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Alabama State added a short touchdown pass and less than three minutes later ASU got a 46 yard score to up the lead.
Brad Woodard rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown for TSU (2-3, 1-3). Hurts completed 16 of his 23 passing attempts for 147 yards and one touchdown.Â
The Tigers will look to rebound against their next opponent, Mississippi Valley State on October 17 in Itta Bena, Miss.Â
