MONTGOMERY- The Texas Southern Tigers lost a 38-3 decision to the Alabama State Hornets on Saturday. The loss is TSU's first defeat of the season as the Tigers overall record moves to 4-1 and 2-1 in league play.
Alabama State led 26-3 at halftime and never looked back from there as they remained unbeaten at home. Texas Southern tallied 122 rushing yards and 99 yards passing the ball. Daveonn Porter was limited to 43 yards rushing while the Tigers leading receiver was Fred Plummer who tallied 40 yards on four receptions.
Defensively the Tigers were led by Darian Claiborne who had an impressive night tallying 14 tackles and two tackles for loss. TSU was 5-of-15 on third downs and 1-for-1 in red zone scoring opportunities.
Texas Southern returns home this weekend to face Mississippi Valley State on Saturday, Oct. 4 at BBVA Compass Stadium at 7:00 pm. The Tigers will play four of their next six games at home.
