HOUSTON- Three Tulsa point contributors scored in double figures to lead TU to a 67-64 overtime win against Texas Southern on Tuesday afternoon at HPE Arena. TU moved to 2-2 on the season, while TSU fell to 0-4 overall.
After Texas Southern was able to take a solid lead Tulsa inched back into the game, outscoring TSU, 18-10, to start the second half and tied the game at 43-all with 11:53 on the clock.
Diamonisha Sophus put TSU ahead again just seconds later, but Tulsa hit a three to give the Golden Hurricane the lead, which TU held for the next 10 minutes off the clock.
Morgan Simmons hit a free throw at the 1:33 mark that tied the contest at 60-all. No team was able to make a shot in the final 90 seconds, forcing overtime.Â
In the overtime period, Tulsa had a 7-4 lead in points. Both teams had 15 assists and 11 steals, while TU had a 3-2 lead in blocks, and TSU had a 40-33 advantage in rebounds.
The Golden Hurricane shot 42-percent from the field, 31-percent from behind the arc and 76-percent from the free throw line, while the Lady Tigers were 40-percent from the field, 27-percent from three-point range and 73-percent from the charity stripe.
Tulsa led Texas Southern for the majority of the first half, but Sophus tied the game at 24-all with 3:33 left to play and TSU outscored TU, 9-1, to close out the half with a 33-25 lead.
The Hurricane shot just 32-percent from the field, including 27-percent from behind the arc, and was 6-of-7 for 85-percent from the free throw line in the first half. The Lady Tigers were 44-percent from the field, and 50-percent from three-point range.
