Houston, TX-The Texas Southern Tigers football program signed ten recruits to kick-off national signing day, with another nine student-athletes already on campus and ready to go.
Second year head coach Darrell Asberry says the program is heading in the right direction.
“We addressed our needs with this signing class,” Asberry said. “Our focus was to find offensive and defensive linemen, quarterbacks and a running back. We did that and more.”
Asberry says his top recruits include defensive lineman Aaron Hush and running back Daveonn Porter.
Hush is a 6-4, 290 pound defensive end from Piscataway, New Jersey. Hush signed with Temple out of high school but he was cut after suffering an injury. He comes to Texas Southern from Dean College and brings experience, athleticism and toughness to the Tigers' defensive line. Porter is a two-star athlete and was ranked 20
th in the nation last season among junior college running backs. Coming out of Coahoma Community College, he was recruited by Arkansas State, Syracuse, Texas Tech, Louisiana and Memphis.
Asberry says this class will put a different face on Texas Southern football. “We are building for the future and this class is a big step in that direction.”
Asberry says his recruiting doesn't stop here. He expects to add several more players in the coming weeks.
