Houston, TX-The Texas Southern Tigers extended their home winning streak to 14 games when they defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 69-55 in the H&PE Arena. The Tigers are now 6-12 overall and 5-1 in conference. DaQuane Joyner led TSU in their big win over the Lions. Joyner had 15 points and nine rebounds tonight, 12 of his points came in the second half.

Joyner hit a jumper that tied the game at 7 with 15:18 on the clock. TSU took control of the game from that point forward. The Tigers built an 11 point lead (23-12) with 8 minutes on the clock. Omar Strong drained a three-point shot to give TSU a 16 point advantage (34-18). Texas Southern ended the first half up 34-23.

Fred Sturdivant rocked the house when he slammed a pass from Dexter Ellington to put TSU up 49-32. The Tigers would not cruise to victory however. Arkansas-Pine Bluff put together a rally that cut Texas Southern's lead to seven (56-49) at the 5:28 minute mark.

Joyner got the Tigers back on track by dropping a jump shot and converting the "and-one" following the foul. TSU pulled away from that point to secure their 14 point victory.

Sturdivant scored 12 points while Lawrence Johnson-Danner recorded 10 points and six rebounds.

Texas Southern will face first place Mississippi Valley on Monday, January 23rd in the H&PE Arena at 8:00pm.
