Coach Cayton

Mi'cole Cayton

Micole Cayton, a native of Stockton, California, is a retired women’s basketball player whose career is defined by resilience, versatility, and passion for the game. She is the only player to compete in eight years of college basketball, with stops at Cal Berkeley, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Pepperdine. Alongside her athletic journey, Cayton achieved remarkable academic success, earning a Law Degree from Cal, a Master’s in Environmental Science from Nebraska, a Master’s in Education from Minnesota, and a Master’s in Higher Education (K–12) from Pepperdine.

As a freshman at Cal, she made an immediate impact on the court, highlighted by an 18-point performance against UCLA, before her sophomore season was cut short by an ACL injury, which then led to 3 more surgeries and throughout her career total of 7. Despite setbacks, Cayton’s determination carried her through an extraordinary college career, shaping her into a player-coach who understands the challenges and triumphs of the modern student-athlete.

Transitioning into coaching, Cayton joined Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS), where she wore multiple hats as a basketball coach and social media director for the athletic program. During her tenure, she helped lead the team to a League Championship and a Conference Championship, which advanced them to the National Tournament.

Now serving as the Recruiting Coordinator for Texas Southern University Women’s Basketball, Cayton brings a unique perspective shaped by her experience both on the court and in the classroom. With a deep connection to today’s generation of players, she is committed to inspiring and mentoring the next wave of hoopers. Her passion, resilience, and ability to relate to athletes make her a true players’ coach dedicated to building both champions and leaders.
