Larry Woods

Larry Woods II starts his 12th year inside of Texas Southern’s Compliance Office and ninth as the Director of Compliance.
 
Woods’ roles inside the compliance department and the athletic department overall has grown tremendously since his arrival and continues to grow daily due to the evolution of legislation surrounding the NCAA, SWAC and Texas Southern. He is responsible for the submission of all annual compliance reports to the NCAA such as Sport Sponsorship and Revenue Distribution while also assisting in the maintenance of APR and GSR. Woods also oversees the department’s National Letter of Intent Program, squad lists and application of athletic aid. He also serves as a liaison to various departments across campus which ensures the needs of the student-athletes are met while also adding student-athletes’ Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) oversight to his plate after securing an athletic department partnership with Spry for NIL needs.
 
In addition to his compliance office duties, Woods is also active in the department’s gameday operations for both on and off-campus events as he also serves as a public address announcer for multiple sports along with serving as a sport administrator.
 
Woods has played a major role in the rise of Texas Southern’s academic success over the past decade. He was part of a staff which helped TSU football record the biggest improvement in Football (FCS) APR during the 2011-12 season along with having a hand in helping all TSU athletic programs post scores which met or exceeded NCAA APR standards in 2011 for the first time ever. In 2021, the TSU Department of Athletics posted its highest APR score (974) in the history of the department while also claiming the SWAC Academic Success Award for the 2021-22 Academic Year.
 
Before his arrival at TSU, Woods spent three years in the oil manufacturing industry with Schlumberger Limited as the Operations Coordinator for the SEED Department. 
 
A native of Missouri City, Texas and graduate of Hightower High School, Woods earned a Bachelor’s in Broadcast Journalism from Texas Christian University (TCU). In 2018, Woods received his Master’s in Sport Studies and Sport Leadership from Texas Southern.

Woods is married to the lovely Shondra Woods and they have a fur child, Kash.
