Dr. Dwalah Fisher

Dr. Dwalah Fisher currently serves as Texas Southern University's Assistant AD/Senior Woman Administrator. Fisher has been associated with TSU for more than 30-plus years as student-athlete, head coach and administrator.

Dr. Fisher’s duties as SWA include advising TSU’s athletics department on gender-equity issues, representing the university on Southwestern Athletic Conference and NCAA committees that focus on enhancing opportunities for women in intercollegiate athletics, and being an advocate for women’s teams at Texas Southern. During her tenure at TSU, Fisher has enhanced opportunities for female student-athletes both inside and outside the classroom by providing them support through a variety of avenues ranging from the athletic, academic and health sectors. In addition to her role as TSU's SWA, Fisher is heavily involved on the academic side at TSU as she recently served as the Interim Associate Provost and Associate VP for Academic Affairs in addition to a professor in the Department of Health, Kinesiology and Sport Studies. She currently serves as the Title IX Deputy Coordinator for the TSU Athletics Department.

Prior to assuming her enhanced duties, Fisher served 17 seasons as TSU's head volleyball coach and was the second coach in the history of the program from 1994-2010. In 1997, Fisher also made history as she assumed the women's basketball head coaching duties for one season along with running the volleyball program.  In 2017, she was inducted into the SWAC Hall of Fame for her athletic and coaching accomplishments.

A native of Houston, Dr. Fisher graduated from Willowridge High School in Missouri City, Texas in 1989 where she was a standout player in volleyball and basketball. In 2006, she was inducted into the Willowridge Wall of Honor for her outstanding educational and athletic accomplishments in its inaugural year.

Fisher received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Business Management from Texas Southern University in 1995.  She received her Masters in Health Education in 2000 and her Education Doctorate Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2007.

Fisher served as the Chairperson of the SWAC Volleyball Coaches Committee from 1999-2009 and currently serves as the Title IX Deputy Coordinator for the Athletics Department. Dr. Fisher and her staff also hosted a summer camp for youth ages 8-17 to develop and enhance volleyball skills.

She is a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and is married to Vincent Fisher, Sr.  They have two children; Vincent, Jr., a TSU graduate and former student-athlete, and David.
