Tony Greene

Tony Greene is widely regarded as one of the bright young minds in the world of women's college basketball. He comes to Houston after coaching stints at Grambling State and Langston University and a playing career at East Central University. Greene is a native of Dallas, Texas.

Greene serves as Women's Basketball Associate Head Coach. His primary focus on the court is defense and point guard play.

While an assistant at Grambling State, he helped guide the team from last place to a fourth place finish in the SWAC in two years, with post-season berths in the last two seasons. In 2012 his recruiting class ranked #6 nationally among Mid-Majors by ESPN HoopGurlz and #42 overall in the nation.

Prior to Grambling State he spent 13 years at Langston Unviersity as an assistant coach. During that period he helped compile 244 victories and a 31-2 record in his last season.

Greene was name 2001-2002 AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year. He also developed several fundraisers and scholarship campaigns while at Langston including the Matthew Hatchett Scholarship Celebrity Weekend and the WNBA Celebrity Fundraiser game.

In his eighteen years of collegiate coaching experience, Greene took six trips to NAIA Division I National Tournament; Coached 45 All-Conference players, four Conference Player of the Year recepients, six All-Americans, and three Academic All-Americans.

His teams compiled a 54-1 conference record the last three seasons he was at Langston. As recuiting coordinator he groomed seven players to play profesional basketball; six going overseas and one to the WNBA, 2005 7th WNBA pick Kata Braxton.

Greene received his Bachelor of Science in Health, Physical and Education from Langston University in May 1994. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, the Black Coaches Association and the Women's Basketball Association. He is married To Aniece Greene and they have five children one son and four girls: Charm (son), Toni, Nadia, De Naijia, Anieya (daughters)
