Shanel Scott

Shanel Scott was named assistant coach at Texas Southern in 2010.

Scott works with the outfielders and assists with slap hitters, while providing base running training. She is responsible for scouting, recruiting, player development and other duties.

In 2010, Scott helped direct the Tigers to the SWAC West Division title and advance to the league tournament for the first time in three years. In one year, she helped leave her mark on the program as the Tigers secured the program’s second winning record in school history as TSU went 21-20.

Prior to coming to Texas Southern, Scott was an assistant coach at South Dakota State University in 2009.

Scott played professionally for the Tennessee Diamonds in the National Pro Fastpitch League in the summer. She previously played for the Rockford Thunder.

As a rookie in 2007, she had an NPF season-record 34 stolen bases while playing with the New England Riptide. Scott batted a team-leading .324, which ranked sixth in the NPF. She led the league with 35 runs scored, earning First Team All-NPF All-Star honors.  

A former Oklahoma State University star, Scott was a First Team All-Big 12 selection and a First Team All-Midwest Region choice as a senior in 2007. She earned second team all-conference honors as a sophomore. Scott set the school career (107) and season (51) stolen base records, and led the nation in steals per game (0.88) as a senior. She batted .358 in her career, and hit .384 as a senior. She broke the OSU record for runs scored in a career (162) and tied the school season mark (56) in 2007. Scott was a second team Academic All-Big 12 for the Cowgirls in 2007.

A native of Enid, Okla., Scott earned a bachelor’s degree in child and family services from Oklahoma State in 2007, and is pursuing a master’s degree at Texas Southern.
