Southern scored in extra innings to hand TSU a tough 3-2 loss in the series finale on Saturday morning.
With one out in the second, Jade McQueen hit a two-run shot over the right field fence for a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, Southern responded in the third with a run off a fielding error while also tying it on a sac fly.
Starting pitcher Zaria Turner and SU starter Aaliyah Zabala had another pitching duel as it took extra innings for the contest to be decided. SU opened the eighth with back-to-back singles as the winning run moved over to third after a fielder's choice. The TSU defense came up big by throwing out the leadoff runner at home, but SU answered with an RBI single to center for the go-ahead run.
With two outs in the eighth, McQueen hit a double to left, but that would be the final hit as the game ended on a pop-up.
McQueen finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run. Marisa Perla followed with two hits while Turner struck out four over eight innings.
TSU is back in action on the road at Alcorn State on Friday at 3 p.m. in Lorman, Miss.
