Softball Sweeps Alcorn State Following 10-1 Win On Saturday

LORMAN, Miss. – Texas Southern softball secured a series sweep over Alcorn State after a 10-1 victory on Saturday afternoon.

ASU threatened to score in the bottom of the first with two outs, but TSU closed the door with a fly out to end the inning. The Tigers broke the game open in the second inning, plating four runs to seize early momentum. Jade McQueen got things started with a solo home run to right-center, setting the tone for the inning. Dania Durr followed with an RBI double, while Marisa Perla added another run-scoring double. Kylie Wilson capped the surge with an RBI single, giving Texas Southern a 4–0 lead.

Texas Southern continued to apply pressure in the third inning. McQueen delivered again with an RBI single, and Jordyn Talbert added a run with a groundout to extend the lead to 6–0. The Tigers added one more in the fourth on an RBI groundout by Destiny Menchaca.
The offense stayed hot in the fifth inning, as Talbert, Katelynn Cooper, and Durr each drove in runs to push the advantage to 10–0.

Alcorn State broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning when Adriyana Ruffin tripled to right field to score Jamyiyah Cotten, accounting for the Braves' lone run of the game.

McQueen led the way for Texas Southern with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, including a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Durr also contributed two RBIs, while Cooper and Talbert added key hits in the Tigers' 12-hit attack.

In the circle, Melonie Guardiola delivered a strong outing, allowing just one run on three hits over five innings while earning the win. She kept Alcorn State's offense in check throughout, backed by a defense that limited scoring opportunities.
Alcorn State managed just three hits in the contest, with Ruffin's RBI triple providing the lone highlight offensively.

TSU is back in action at Arkansas-Pine Bluff next Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Pine Bluff, Ark.
