GRAMBLING, La. - Texas Southern wasted no time in setting the tone as they closed out the series with an 8-1 win at Grambling State on Saturday.
TSU had a fast start in the first frame as Karisma Garcia doubled home Marisa Perla followed by Lanay Carr's RBI triple for a 2-0 lead. The lead grew to 4-0 in the third as Garcia logged a two-run homer which also scored Penelope Saenz. Perla's sac fly in the fourth upped the margin to 5-0 while GSU crossed home a run in the fourth to trail 5-1. TSU tacked on three more in the fifth as Dania Durr and Perla drove in runs for the final margin as the game was stopped in the sixth and marked official due to lightning.
Garcia finished 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and a walk. Kylie Wilson, Carr, Durr and Jade McQueen had two hits while Perla drove in three runs. Kylie Wilson earned the win with a complete game outing as she struck out three.
TSU is back in action on Tuesday at Incarnate Word for a 2 p.m. start.
