Softball Defeats HCU 6-2 In Comeback Win

TSU softball won its seventh straight game with a 6-2 comeback win over Houston Christian on Tuesday evening.

The win marked TSU's first over HCU since 2018 as the contest was considered a TSU home game despite being played at HCU.

The day belonged to the pitchers early on as the contest was scoreless until the fifth. With two outs in the top of the fifth and a runner on first, HCU drew a walk and hit an RBI single for a 1-0 lead. The Huskies hit another RBI single to right field for a 2-0 margin.
TSU would break through in the sixth as Marisa Perla led the inning off with a bunt and was sacrificed over to second by KateLynn Cooper. Dania Durr drew a full count walk which led to Karisma Garcia's RBI double. Lanay Carr singled home pinch runner Zariah London to knot it at 2-all which forced a pitching change.

Pinch hitter Kiersten Salinas broke the tie with an RBI single followed by an HCU error which led to Carr scoring for a 4-2 lead. Jade McQueen was hit by a pitch which set up Kylie Wilson's two-RBI single and a 6-2 lead.

Reliever Miranda Pena pitched a 1-2-2 top of the seventh with two strikeouts to seal the win.

Wilson, Perla and Carr all had two hits with Wilson driving in two runs. Pena earned the win after two innings of relief while Zaria Turner, a former HCU student-athlete, led TSU with six strikeouts.

TSU shifts back to SWAC play on Friday with a huge series at SWAC West foe Prairie View A&M. The series starts at 3 p.m. on Friday in Prairie View.
