LORMAN, Miss. — Texas Southern women's basketball couldn't overcome a slow first half Saturday afternoon, falling 66–51 to Alcorn State at the Davey L. Whitney Complex. The loss moves TSU to 8–10 overall and 4–2 in SWAC play.
TSU trailed 32–18 at halftime after shooting just 18.8 percent in the second quarter and going 0-for-8 from beyond the arc in the period. Alcorn State capitalized with strong offensive rebounding and timely scoring to build a double-digit lead they never relinquished.
Texas Southern responded with its best offensive frame in the third quarter, scoring 23 points on 66.7 percent shooting and cutting the deficit to as little as 10. Maci Quiller fueled the surge with nine points in the period, while Fenishka Bertho added four of her seven points during the run. Still, Alcorn State countered each push and carried a 52–41 lead into the final quarter.
Quiller led TSU with 16 points, going a perfect 5-5 from the free‑throw line and adding six rebounds. Daeja Holmes scored 10 points and recorded five assists, while Bertho added seven points and five rebounds off the bench.
