Softball Scores Twice In The 6th To Secure Series Opener Over Southern

Lanay Carr's RBI single in the sixth moved TSU past Southern 2-1 in the series opener between both teams on Friday at Memorial Park.
 
It was a scoreless tie until the third when Southern's Alexis Burton singled home a run as her hit was well-placed deep in the infield for a 1-0 lead. Southern had a runner steal third on the next at-bat but pitcher Kylie Wilson struck out the batter for the inning-ending out. Two innings later, TSU would loaded the bases with only one out but Southern held on to the lead with a force out at home and a flyout.
 
Karisma Garcia opened the sixth with a leadoff homer to knot the game at 1-all. With one out, pinch hitter Penelope Saenz doubled to left center as Carr singled home pinch runner Zariah London for a 2-1 margin. Wilson would do the rest as she recorded a 1-2-3 top of the seventh for the win.
 
Carr finished 2-for-3 with an RBI while Wilson struck out six while allowing only four hits.
 
The series resumes at 12 p.m. tomorrow for a doubleheader.
