MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Texas Southern opened strong but couldn't keep pace as West Virginia rolled to a 109-40 victory Monday night at Hope Coliseum.
The Lady Tigers briefly led 2-0 after a layup from Daeja Holmes, who finished with 12 points. Taliyah Logwood added 12 points and five rebounds, while Lauren Perry chipped in six points off the bench.
Texas Southern shot 53.8% in the first quarter and trailed just 26-16 after 10 minutes, but West Virginia took control in the second period with a 32-10 run and never looked back.
The Mountaineers dominated inside, scoring 56 points in the paint and converting 54 points off turnovers. Kierra Wheeler led all scorers with 23 points and eight rebounds. Jordan Harrison added 17 points and seven assists, and Gia Cooke had 14 points and four steals.
West Virginia shot 50.7% from the field and went 29 of 38 at the free-throw line. Texas Southern finished at 35.7% shooting and committed 35 turnovers.
The Lady Tigers return to action on Monday, Dec. 15, at East Texas Commerce as they continue non-conference play, tipping off at 10:30 am.
