• The Texas Southern women's basketball team is back in action for its non-conference
match up at University of North Texas on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
• TSU returns two starters; Daeja Holmes and Aaliyah Henderson and one letterwinner; Maci Quiller, from last season while adding nine newcomers to the roster during the offseason.
• This marks the second straight year both teams will play as North Texas defeated
TSU 78-54 last season in the first meeting between both programs.
• Head Coach Vernette Skeete enters her fourth season at TSU. Last season, she guided the Tigers to a 14–4 SWAC record, finishing tied for second place and reaching the SWAC Tournament semifinals—a dramatic turnaround from her first two seasons (9–49 overall).
• Under Skeete, TSU made its first-ever postseason appearance last season, hosting a historic WNIT game at TSU and advancing to the second round before falling to Louisiana Tech.
•Jason Burton is in his third season with the Mean Green after he was hired on March 27, 2023, as the ninth head women's basketball coach in UNT history. Burton arrived at North Texas following nine seasons as the head coach at Texas A&M–Commerce.
•Since taking over the Mean Green program, Burton has guided UNT to its two winningest seasons in program history, a conference championship and back-to-back appearances in national postseason tournaments.
• TSU was picked to finish fourth in the SWAC's Preseason Poll.
• UNT enters the matchup after back-to-back postseason appearances and is looking to extend its dominance over TSU following last year's 24-point win.
• TSU will rely heavily on leadership from Holmes and Henderson while integrating nine newcomers into the rotation.
• TSU head coach Vernette Skeete has yet to win a game in the month of December.
