Football heads To Grambling State Seeking 3rd Straight Win

• Texas Southern returns to action Saturday evening with a match-up against Grambling State at 6 p.m. inside Robinson Stadium on the Grambling State campus.

• Saturday's contest will feature live audio on KTSU 90.9 FM and will be shown live on ESPN+

• TSU has played in multiple Grambling State Homecomings over the decades. TSU has played GSU 13 times for Homecoming since 1989 but wins have been hard to come by with wins in 1997 and 1999. TSU's last win in Grambling State occurred in 2013 as the last time the teams played a night game in Robinson Stadium was in 2009.

• TSU hasn't defeated Grambling State in consecutive seasons since 2012-13. The 2022 win over GSU was TSU's largest margin of victory (34) since 1957.

• GSU was picked fifth in the preseason poll. The Tigers have leaned on their defense as they rank third in the SWAC yielding 360.4 yards per game. Offensively, GSU has relied on its passing attack as Southern University transfer C'zavian Teasett passes for 155.8 yards per game while Jordan Bride ranks sixth in the SWAC with 60.6 yards per game and 15 receptions. Bryce Cage and Warren Robinson ranks ninth and 10th in tackles for loss.

• The kick return game has been a bright spot for TSU as they rank first in the SWAC with 29.7 yards per return. Kerien Charlo leads the SWAC with 31.3 yards per return while Trent Leary and Chaunzavia Lewis have also performed well as of late.

TSU has three players (Isaiah Bogerty, Charles George and Matthew Cooks) rank amongst the top six in the SWAC in tackles per game. Bogerty leads the league with 47 (9.4) total followed by George with 43 (8.6) and Cooks with 39 (7.8).

• TSU had three players earn preseason All-SWAC Second Team honors in Trent Leary (WR), Damarcus Thompson (DE) and Jeremy Ramirez (P).

• TSU is coming off a season-high in offensive yards (557) last week against UAPB and season-low in defensive yards (275).

• After several years of offseason changes to the coaching staff, the Tigers finally had stability this offseason with no changes.

• TSU was picked to finish fourth in the SWAC during the annual SWAC Preseason Poll. TSU returns four offensive starters and two on defense.

• Injuries took a major toll for TSU last year as several key players return after season-ending injuries suffered during the Labor Day Classic in linebacker Jacob Williams and quarterback KJ Cooper. Two years ago, Williams was TSU's first 100-plus tackler since 2004 while Cooper led TSU to a Labor Day Classic win in 2024.

Cris Dishman is the 18th head coach in the history of Texas Southern Football. Dishman inherits a tough task as the program has only had 28 winning seasons in 78 years of existence and hasn't recorded a winning season since 2000.
