LORMAN, Miss. – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University were denied a share of the Southwestern Athletic Conference regular season championship Saturday after falling 54-52 at Alcorn State to end the regular season.
Â
The host Lady Braves scored nine unanswered points over the last five minutes of the game to erase TSU's largest lead of the fourth quarter before hitting the game-winning basket with four seconds left.
Â
TSU's Joyce Kennerson finished a rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling in a career-high nine rebounds – all on the defensive end of the court. Kaitlyn Palmer scored 12 points for the Lady Tigers, followed by 10 from Catherine Okwilagwe, which tied her career high.
Â
Saturday's loss, coupled with Southern's 96-58 win over Prairie View A&M, pushed TSU (18-11, 13-5 SWAC) to the conference's No. 2 seed in the Toyota SWAC Tournament. The Lady Tigers will face Alabama State on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at TSU's H&PE Arena.
