NAGODOCHES, Texas  – An eight-run inning derailed Texas Southern in a 9-1 setback versus Stephen F. Austin Tuesday.
The Lady Tigers (4-7) carried a 1-0 lead into the fourth inning, as Haley Smith handed Texas Southern the lead with a sac fly that plated Domonique Tello.
In the fourth, however, the Lady Jacks were able to get to TSU starter Tyra Williams, as she allowed three hits and two RBI as she left the circle with the bases loaded. Lauren Rodriguez was unable to minimize the damage in relief, as SFA's Annie Mehringer jumped on a pitch for a grand slam.
Williams (2-1) received the loss, charged with five earned runs on three hits in 3.0 innings pitched. Tello, Smith, Krystalani Yockman and Miranda Rodarte each had one hit.
Rodriguez allowed six hits, four runs (three earned) and two walks in 2.2 innings.
