Box ScoreARLINGTON, Texas – Texas Southern's comeback bid fell short in extra innings as the Lady Tigers fell 5-4 in nine innings to Texas-Arlington at Allen Saxe Field on Thursday during the UT-Arlington Invitational.
After falling behind 4-0 after two innings, Texas Southern slowly clawed back into it starting in the fourth inning. Haley Smith put one over the fence to give TSU its first run of the game.
A Lady Mavericks error allowed Tiffany Marshall to score in the top of the fifth and make the contest 4-2. Briana Simpson tied things up in the top of the sixth with a two-run single that scored Krystalani Yockman and Marshall.
Neither side could do much else offensively until the bottom of the ninth, where UTA's Krista Rude delivered a game-winning RBI single that scored Sandra Mendoza.
Simpson went 2-for-4 for TSU. Jasmine Fulmore was left the game after two innings and allowing four hits and four runs. Lauren Rodriguez took the loss, pitching 6.1 innings, allowing four hits and striking out four.
Laura Curry and Rebecca Stokes each collected two RBI for UT-Arlington.
