The Texas Southern Tigers picked up their second consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Pitcher of the Week honor.
Darius McClelland received the conference honor for his game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The senior from San Jose, California pitched his first compete game of the season on the road against the Golden Lions. The Tigers won 5-2 with McClelland recording 6 strikeouts, 6 hits, 2 walks and no earned runs.
McClelland's success not only helped the team win game 2, but it played a role in the team wining the series against UAPB. "Because Darius pitched a complete game Saturday, we were able to unload our bullpen on Sunday," said pitching coach Ehren Moreno. "Without Darius throwing that complete game, we would not have been able to matchup against Pine Bluff like we did to win."
Last week, Devin Konarik was named SWAC Co-Pitcher of the Week for his performance against Prairie View A&M.
